DEFINISI
Bronko + Malakia, merupakan degenerasi dari jaringan penyangga dan jaringan elastin bronkus. Kata bronkomalasia juga digunakan untuk kelemahan kartilago pada dinding bronkus, mengenai anak/ bayi usia di bawah 6 tahun, dapat ditemukan rhonki dan atau wheezing (mengi).
Bronkomalsia dapat dideskripsikan sebagai defek kelahiran pada bronkus di traktus respiratorius. Malasia kongenital pada saluran udara/nafas besar merupakan salah satu dari beberapa penyebab okstruksi saluran nafas ireversibel pada anak, dengan gejala bervariasi yang dapat berupa wheezing rekuren dan infeksi saluran nafas bawah rekuren sampai dispneu berat dan insufisiensi respirasi.

KLASIFIKASI
Bronkomalasia dikelompokkan meja 2, yaitu :
1. Bronkomalasia primer
- Disebabkan oleh defisiensi pada cincin kartilago
- Diklasifikasikan sebagai kongenital
2. Bronkomalasia sekunder
- Merupakan kelainan didapat (bukan kongenital)
- Disebabkan oleh kompresi ekstrinsik (luar), dapat dari pelebaran pembuluh-pembuluh darah, cincin vascular, atau kista bronkogenik.

DIAGNOSIS
Diagnosis ditegakkan dengan anamnesis, pemeriksaan fisik dan dibantu pemeriksaan penunjang. Diagnosis pasti ditegakkan dengan pemeriksaan bronkoskopi.

PENATALAKSANAAN
1. Time
Invasisf minimal, bersamaan dengan pemebrian tekanan udara positif yang kontinu.
2. Tekanan udara positif kontinu
Metode menggunakan respiratory ventilation.
3. Trakheotomi
Prosedur pembedahan pada leher untuk membuka/ membuat saluran udara langsung melalui sebuah insisi di trakhe (the windpipe).
